High Altitude Training
Misty Valley Lodge is the ideal venue for any athlete interested in high altitude training located over 2000m above sea level. High altitude training is a widely accepted and used method in elite sports. The result is a dramatic improvement in blood oxygen carrying capacity - to help you work harder and longer and to train more efficiently. Generally, sport scientist place the increase in performance gained from altitude training in the 3-5% range. At Misty Valley Lodge, athletes have different surfaces that can be utilised for training:

Tar: The tarred roads in the area are well maintained and very safe, with very little traffic. For cyclists the hills in the area have tough constant climbs of a minimum of 30kms reaching peak at 2070km above sea level.

Dirt: Different off road routes can be used either on or off the property with tranquil surroundings through forests or herds
of plains game. For the Mountain Biking and Cross Country runners different routes with varied degrees of difficulty can
be mapped out.

Track: Ideal for speed training for runners, a track is available less than 35km away at a local school.

Cross Country: Choose a variety of different training routes within Lodge boundaries. This is ideal for cross-country training, while viewing game roaming freely.

Dam: The Vygeboom dam in the vicinity is 3.8km long and ideal for rowing.
